AfroAesthetics: Creative Comics: Community Demo - Show & Tell

AfroAesthetics: Creative Comics: Community Demo - Show & Tell In-Person

Reflect on the semester and share your comic stories with the Davidson community.

AfroAesthetics is an initiative of The L.A.B. (Love for Africa and the Black Diaspora), a grassroots movement founded by Nasir Jean-Paul that celebrates Black culture across the world, especially through the literary, visual, movement, performing, and creative arts.

This semester's focus, Creative Comics, builds on Nasir's programs and presentations on Black Superheroes during Black History Month and the 2025 Verna Miller Case Symposium and invites participants to reimagine the possibilities of comic storytelling.

Over the course of this 6-week lecture and creative-building workshop series, participants will:

  • Explore the significance of comics, Black superheroes, and cultural representation in media
  • Engage with the Davidson College Library's curated collection of Black superhero comics
  • Develop practical skills in analyzing comics and creating a meaningful comic universe that honors the people and societies of the real world
